ABOUT MASTER ADVOCATES
Master Advocates first came about when Mark decided he wanted to move away from sales and spend more time doing what he enjoyed – helping people find their perfect family home or investment property.
He applied for a number of jobs as a buyers’ advocate, but because most of his life and career had been in real estate sales, he was either not considered for the roles or recognised as a threat based on his knowledge and experience.
Finally, he decided that if they weren’t going to hire him, then he would do it himself. (Well, himself plus his wife, Michelle.)
And with that, Master Advocates was born. On 29th May 2014.
The rest, as they say, is history.
From the start, Master Advocates was all about providing outstanding service to a small and select group of clients. Currently we take on about six clients a month, which is pretty much the optimum number, as it allows us to give each of them our utmost levels of care and attention.
Most buyers’ advocates have never done sales or property management, let alone both. And this combination of skills allows us to offer our clients a truly unique service. We can not only find them a house, but we can tell them straight away what kind of renter it will attract, how much it will return and how we can make it more attractive to renters.
But that’s not the only secret weapon we have. We are fortunate indeed to have a research and due diligence team with of 25+ years’ experience that have worked with builders, developers and real estate agents to develop a formidable skillset. Spending days happily checking building and town planning proposals and council records to see what development proposals are in the pipeline and what’s going on in the neighbourhood.
And when our research team are not doing all that, they are checking the auction results, sold, passed in and forthcoming and liaising with our real estate networks to seek opportunities in both the On and Off market private sale property listings to try and find the best deals for our clients.
As well as helping a range of clients, from first-time buyers, dream-home owners and upsizers to downsizers, we also work closely with renovators, builders and property developers, from knock-down re-build, dual occupancy to multi-unit subdivision sites. We source, project manage due diligence and preliminary feasibility and collaborate with our panel of trusted related industry professionals from architects, town planners, building and pest inspectors, trades people and builders, manage them throughout the job and make sure the investment property is properly cared for from initial purchase through to re-sale or leasing and property management ready.
Although we assist buyers throughout Metropolitan Melbourne, we specialise particularly in all suburbs north of the Yarra River. Our skills, networks, roots and experience in the North, North West and North East mean we are particularly strong in those areas with a network spanning Australia and direct service across the East Coast.
We are based in Essendon North and have worked here for over 25 years. Consequently, we know many of the agents personally and enjoy good relationships with them. This has proved to be hugely beneficial, as we often get notified of properties before they hit the market or invited to view homes before anyone else. We even get the red-carpet treatment when it comes to negotiating, which can end up saving our clients significant amounts of money.

The decoy bidder in the check coat: Mark Errichiello
The second of our new faces to have a big impact on the day was buyer’s advocate Mark Errichiello, who appeared to have a client keen on securing at least one of the Island Cove Villa properties.
Known as bidder No. 24, he tick-tacked with other bidders on houses 4 and 3 before eventually dropping out of the race.
It was the auction of House 5 when he finally came out on top after fighting off four other bidders, winning Kristian and Mimi’s property for $2.93 million.
At the conclusion of all the auctions, it was revealed his client was actually Portelli.
So, why did a billionaire need someone to buy his home on his behalf?
“Who knows how it would have worked out if he [Portelli] was just there on his own, buying them all?” Errichiello asked. “Others may have competed with him a little bit more vigorously at times.”
“Portelli waited until after all five auctions had taken place to make his big reveal. The billionaire stunned the crowd when he revealed, post-auction, that he had bought every home on the show, directly or through his buyer’s agent. He also confirmed that he won’t be returning to bid again next season.”…
